I purchased the catfish pictured below and was told that it was a Porthole Catfish. At the time of purchase it was about 1.5" long. Since then, about four months, it has grown to 3.5". From what I was told, a Porthole is only supposed to get up to 4-5" max. My catfish looks different than Porthole Catfish pictures that I have found online.

Could someone tell me if this is a Porthole?

Well its not :p it is in fact a Megalechis thoracata , commonly known as a brown hoplo (it formerly came under the Hoplosternum genus).

Yeah i was gonna say Wolf, unlike you. It's the fish previously known as hoplosternum thoracatum.

I can't be correct 100% of the time :p

cracking fish as well. active a lot and love feeding and it will grow to 6 inches or more if given the chance.

A LFS by me used to breed them many moons ago
