Hi there!
Today as I was cleaning out my tank, I noticed my poor little catfish seems to have some sort of injury? I’m not really sure. Maybe some sort of skin rot? I’m not a pro in fish injuries, so I’m looking for some advice. This catfish is dear to me, I’ve had him for probably like 4 or 5 years now. So I’m willing/wanting to help him.
Thank you in advance!

(In this picture^ I thought maybe his eye looked a little white? Idk what that is, his other eye isn’t like that.)

Is there an ornament or cave he could have gotten stuck in and scuffed himself up getting out?

It’s possible he could’ve scraped himself on some of the flagstone. Do you think that’s all it is?

You can't see injuries very well when fish are out of water and it's worse on dark fish. Put it back in the tank and take some more photos.

Tell us about the tank, water changes, gravel cleaning, filter cleaning, etc.

What s the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the tank water?

How long has the fish been sick for?
What are the symptoms?

What did you do or add to the tank in the 2 weeks before this happened?

Ok, I’ll get more pictures tomorrow.

We change water a lot, but I always add the necessary chemicals to make it safe. I have a large 125 gallon pond, and that’s what he actually lives in. I keep it very clean. The filter gets cleaned every other day.

I’m not quite sure, I need to get to the store to get some things to test it, so I’ll get back to you on that.

This is the first time I’ve noticed anything wrong with him. He was swimming a bit slower, and I haven’t noticed as much eating but that’s all.

Nothing has been done to the tank recently. Just cleaning and using the normal chemicals.

What chemicals do you add to the tank?

Why do you clean the filter every couple of days?

How do you clean the filter?

Filters normally get done once a month. You can do them more often if you like but one a week is the most they should need to be done.

Filter media/ materials should be squeezed out in a bucket of tank water. The media is re-used and the bucket of dirty water is poured on the lawn.

It gets surprisingly dirty in there, I cleaned the filter yesterday. I’ll show you what it looks like tomorrow. I just rinse everything out really good.

looks like a rock scrape, got in a tight spot. That is my offical guess. Not an illness. Treatment suggestions I just provide clean healthy water on catfish as salt is not their favorite thing

Just as an observation the critter is hurt. By netting to do photos you are adding stress which is never good for a fish in distress. At least it looks like you are netting to get pictures... :dunno:

I know, I do feel bad about that. But like I said before it’s a 125 gallon plastic pond, so it’s black and he swims at the bottom. So I can’t get pictures without catching him first unless I want to fully submerge my phone lol.
