Definitely

It's usually the best substrate to use, since it is gentle on their barbles.

Yep, catfish of all kinds seem to love it, especcially those that graze & forage, like cories or raphaels or burrow, like banjos.

Catfish love sand in their tanks.

Just be careful not to get sand that has sharp edges that could damage their barbels. Here's a link that describes many different kinds of sand:

I could c that being difficult! Think i'll do a complete tank change when i go 2 sand... water will get filthy when the gravel is disturbed 2 that extent wouldn't it?

I just switched to sand in all my tanks and I know my cories in the 30 gallon love me for it.

I used pool filter sand and it was easy to put in and did not cloud at all. B)

The way I did it was I just bought a new 29 gallon tank and put sand in it then moved my tiger barbs from the 30 long to the 29. Then, with the 30 long empty, I switched it to sand and then put my community fish that I wanted to keep from the 55 gallon into it. The, with the 55 free, it was easy to put the sand in it before putting in the Africans.

I used wanting sand as a rationalization to get a new tank

its really not a problem changing to sand from gravel without moving the fish, in fact i think it stresses the fish more to move them
