Could anyone help me on this I have 3 serpae tetras I want to remove from my community tank cause they are ripping my other fish fins an causing a lot of stress... They seem a lot smarter than my other fish they bolt away an hide but most of the other fish just swim up to the net...
I don't really want to have to remove lots of water an damage my lay out has anyone any good ideas on how to get them are traps they have made are anything that I would be helpful??

The method I use is to either take two nets or one net and a wooden dowel (I use the dowels for all sorts of things) and basically maneuver the fish using the dowel into the net. Still a good idea to drop the water level a bit just to give them that much less space to swim around. Just treat it like a water change.

use two nets, one large that you hold in say a corner and then use a smaller net to chase the fish you want into the large net

Slow movements with the net to carefully corner the fish you are trying to catch (with the removal of decor to make it easier to not get other stuff).  Once cornered, just keep the net pinned against the glass and the fish will move into the net on its own eventually.  Then take it out of the water and be ready to place it in a suitable holding place while you catch the others.  (Make sure the water is EXACTLY the same, and no acclimation process is necessary.)  It takes practice, as with anything, and it will get easier the more you do it.  Eventually you will be able to do it without too much trouble.  The first few times can be quite stressful, for both you and the fish.  Its okay though, you will all recover. ;)

If you are setting up a new tank for these fish, removing 50% of the water from the current tank and putting it into the new tank will be the best solution.  Then, once all the fish are moved, merely fill the tank as if it were a water change and the fish will be fine.  But, don't fill the new tank with 100% tap water and move them without any acclimation time.  This will shock the fish causing even more stress.

Think I need to get a new net lol the one I have is quite small an my tank is 28 inches high...

I'm am for taking the 3 of them back to fish shop they have killed one of my juvenile veil tail angels an another doesn't look good they don't go near any of the other fish when the light is on so didnt know what was doing it then I see 2 of them at the angels last night an the angels fins were nipped....

I spent a hour before trying to get them have to get back an catch them soon...

They are only nipping because you only have 3 of them... :/ The less there are the more nippy they are. Serpaes need groups of 6+ preferably more.

I had 10 these 3 r the ones I can't catch when there was 10 they were going after fish constantly in groups of 3 r so other fish hadn't a chance for a break from not getting chased....

What else do you have and size of the tank?

My tank is 350 litres ... Have picture few messages back....
I have
12 Neons
10 rummy nose
3 platies
2 bolivian rams
2 juvenile angels
2 guppies
4 otto cats
5 sterbai corys
2 dennision barb size of the rummy nose... Will be rehomed when bigger

I just caught the other 3 serpae tetras took me bought 2 hours lol...

My serpae tetras are super fast, too!
What I do is soak some food in water (my serpaes aren't big surface feeders) and have the net in the back of the aquarium...when the tetra starts eating, come up from behind and before he knows what's coming at him catch him!!

I eventually caught them had to take out all my decor though it was really starting to annoy me trying to catch them... Now to just replace my angels I don't know weather to take the one juvenile angel I have left back an get 4 new ones are what because he mightn't get along with the new ones... The place I get them they be in the one tank an ya can sorta see which ones are getting along...
