Perhaps someone here has seen this before and knows what this is.

cory-cataract.jpg

The issue is the cory facing the photo, specifically its right eye -- enlarged and has a white dot inside. The other eye appears to have the same problem to lesser degree. Cataract? A very slow infection?

(Whatever this is, it does not seem to be a quick killer: the photo is from August of 2010, and the fish is still doing and eating fine; the eye looks the same. No idea how long this was going on, I have these pandas for 4 or 5 years.)

I'm no expert but it does look suspiciously like a condition called pop eye.

Pop eye is for both eyes.
one eye mean an injury.
i think this is what i have read before (somebody verify?)

P.s. Love your otos!! :thumbs::drool:

Not pop-eye for sure (it is an acute infection that would not linger for months), injury is possible but this looks internal to me.

Otos -- thanks! The small one on the left likely was born in this tank... I cannot count them accurately, heavily planted 55g, but I seem to have more than I put in originally and some are small, smaller than I would have considered buying.

Has the fish shown any behavioural changes or is it just this small change alone?

Only this, behavior is normal, including of the affected fish.

Certainly not popeye (and it surely can affect just one eye and generally does). Looks like "cloudy eye". Usually caused by external parasite infection (velvet or similar) or bacterial.
If fish is acting normal with no other symptoms id recommend some large and frequent waterchanges over the coming weeks. see if that helps.
cheers
