Hi all,

I've been keeping goldfish for a couple of years now with no problems, slowly building up the population one fish at a time. Recently I bought a new fish and since then (although the new chap isn't affected) four of his tank mates have developed the same white blister just above their mouth on what I'd refer to as their forehead, it's in each case about the size of my little pinky nailand outlined in red. I've done some research and although unsightly (and it really is!) it appears to be a harmless case of Carp Pox which should clear up in a little while, brought on by the fact that over my holiday, my flatmate very nicely cleaned the fish as instructed, but thought the filter needed a good clean in scalding hot tap water...

Any way, I'm just a bit concerned by how the little chaps all look, their behaviour has not been affected, they are all taking food nicely.

I would really appreciate some advice and reassurance in this matter, a second opinion as it were.

Cheers.

hi
can you get a pic of these lumps, do they look waxy and what colour are they?

Fish Pox

Symptoms:

Fish pox is characterized by white, pink or gray wax-like growths on the skin and fins.

Cause:

Viral infection that occurs most often in cool and cold-water fish, particularly Koi. These symptoms seem to progress to a point, then gradually subside, lasting for 7-10 days. This disease can become chronic, with the symptoms recurring regularly.

Treatment:

There is no known treatment. Fortunately, however, the illness is not usually fatal and does not appear to be contagious. The healing process can be speeded up by increasing water quality and the temperature.

1 of my koi has a carp pox.

has had it for over 2 years now. hasnt spread to others and seems to be looking a little better.

but as said post a picture so it can be confirmed.

Can you post a pic please.
Does the bubble move.
Any redness to the blister. So the blister pink with a circling of red on the outside.
Carp pox the growth will look waxy.
Lymthocystis the growth will look like a caulifower, cluster of berries, will look smooth.

what seems odd is that the spots are all in the same place on 3 different fish

you really need to put some pics of one or all the fish and a bump close up if possible as it could be anything
