Right after doing loads of research on puffers, I have decided on getting 2 Red eye puffers....male anf female to occupy a new 30 gallon tank...What I am wondering is wether this is a good idea or not....??

Sounds good to me!

How are you going to do the tank? Well planted? Bio-type? I know that they prefer a heavily planted tank and they come from Thailand, where they live in slow-moving water. :kana:

Please be aware that lorteti's are particularly aggressive for their size and a 30 gallon *may* not be enough room for them to establish their territories (even with a male and female).

The tank will be heavily planted, so the puffers can hide themselves and dont see each other too often..! I will order a plant setup from java plants the one that I got for my foor footer is amazing...looks really good! I think I'm going to buy a hagen duo 800, does anyone have any experience with these tanks?? I really like the stand and my LFS are doing them for really cheap :D

The hagen tanks are good. They have particularly good in-tank filters and represent good value for money. Our fluval 600 requires filter changes far less often than any of our juwels.

The one thing I don't like about the hagen is the limited access the hood gives to the tank inside. It's quite narrow which is a pain when you wanna get your hands in there! :D Perhaps I'm just too spoilt with the modular hoods on the juwels.

And yes, java plants are fantastic aren't they? I ordered an economy package a while back and couldn't believe the sheer amount and quality of the plants.

URL for this? just googled it but no luck, never seen a service like this b4 sounds good.

Well it's a toss up between a hagen or a juwel so what would you reccomend Lady? ( as you have both types :p )

I would go for the juwel personally, but invest in an external canister filter (eheim or fluval) if you can afford it.

The juwels are generally a bit deeper than the hagens as well as having the fantastic hood. Easy access and more room for your fish! :D

EDIT / I'm assuming your looking at the rio range of juwels here - the rekord series isn't anywhere near as nice.

Thanks a lot Lady well im off to the Goldfish bowl in oxford tomorrow to look at the tanks and I will see what they've got....(and no doubt come home with some fish)

:DWell you will never guess what...I went into the shop today to ask if they could order the red eye puffers and they had just got a group of 10 in!! Well I have reserved two until my tank has cycled...and heres the second bit of big news....I got a new tank its a 30 gallon cube & it looks amazing..this will be my new puffers home!! Wow I'm so happy I found it all...of course the guy working their said I could keep 4 puffers in a 2 foot tank and that they were brackish, but I knew better...(research pays off). So now I am just waiting for the tank to cycle before the puffers go in!! :D :D :p :p
