I have a dilemma. :(

My daughter's best friend just moved, and she had a rainbow shark that her parents were going to FLUSH because they couldn't find a home for it. I very quickly volunteered to take it but now that I have it I have no clue what to do with it. It's about 2 1/2" at the moment, and I know it will get bigger. The biggest tank I have right now is a 20gal(US) with various tetras, swordtails and albino cory cats in it (maybe 10 fish total). I am shopping right now for a 55gal but probably will not purchase one until after I get back from vacation (middle of August).
The shark is currently hiding in my spare 5gal. Can I keep it there or put it in the 20gal until such a time as I purchase and set up the 55gal? He(she?) is really a beautiful fish and I don't want to part with it but I don't want it to die either.
Any suggestions would be welcome!

eww bless ur goodness :D flushing is wrong leting the fish rot/swim in ur poo

It should be ok....but it will get between 5-6" and can be agressive..make sure you have lots of caves which he can call his own...should be ok with corys and swordtails :D ...congrats on savin him

Ok so I'll move him into the 20gal with the others and make sure he has a cave to skulk about in. It's only temporary in any case.

Thanks for the replies.

speaking of rainbow sharks..I have one in my tank an all. It never seems to come out too much cause it's more territorial. BUT when the lights are one, she seems to hide but when lights out, she comes out and just swims with my other Plattys...if I were to get a different light such as like a moonlight blue, will it be good enough? Like It's going to be Not too dark or too light ya know? :fun:

I have just last week lost my Shark to unknown causes, but it was the strangest behaving shark

It was an albino rainbow....which if anything should have made it more photophobic than a regular rainbow.....but no, despite having a mini flower pot to hide in my fish sat on the bottom of my bio orb tank and "sunbathed" on the top of the filter during his restful moments :/ B) he did this from the first time he came home from the shop til he died nearly a year later

Ah and he also failed to recognise anything but cucumber as a food source.

I guess some fish just have lots of personality!!

Its always a shame when a funny fish dies.
There the ones you miss the most!
