Cardinals Losing Colour

I've just got home after a very long day out, and no lights were on.

After I switched on the lights, and a little while later turned on the tank lighting to feed the fish, my cardinals had virtually no colour at all - some blue and no red.

Is it normal for them to "turn their colours off" at night time? I guess they would not want to draw attention to themselves when not active! They seem back to normal now.

My neons do it at night when the lights off so I guess so but I'd probably wait for a response of someone a little more senior than me

They can lose their colour through stress. Probably the fact that you suddently turned the lights on freaked them out

During the day my cardinals look stunning, during the night they look ghostly. All colour drains from them
