i originally had 6 cardinals in my tank. they have been in there for roughly 3 months. 3 weeks ago i added 6 more. then i had an ich outbreak about 2 weeks ago. 4 died before i got ich under control. this morning i 2 more were dead. water seems ok. ammonia, nitrites and nitrates all under control. ph is higher than what cardinals like in the wild, but the original 6 lived ok for 3 months in it. ph is at 7. any suggestions on why my cardinals dying?

I think that the ICH outbreak may not have killed these fish but it has sufficiently weakened them and they could not pull through. Thsi happens often with Cardinals as they have a hard time recovering from such outbreaks.

tstenback is probably right. Ich is a big stresser.

Your fish should have no problems whatsoever living in water with a pH of 7 (as far as pH goes, anyway). Many of us would love for our pH to be that low naturally.
