quick question,

how many cardinal tatras can happily live in a 12G planted tank. only other tank mates are 1 common plec and 4 guppy fry..

i want as many as possible but dont want to over stock.

(this is not the tank in my sig!)

ok to prompt you. i was chatting to the LFS manager last night and he said i can keep 60 in a 12G.

obviously he's barking mad, any other opinions

I would say not more than 10 tops. 60 is OTT :hyper: even if the water was constantly being renewed.

I aggree with Dubby 10 max

you are proberbly aware of how large a common
plec grows so I won't get into that one :p

yeah try convincing the misses. she's having none of it and he's growing fast.

any one want 2 common plecs and a bala (all about 6 inches).
(if anyone's serious, PM me)

You could do 15. One thing I would suggest when purchasing your Cardinals do it in groups of 4-5 spread out by about 2weeks. Besides the cycling issues it prevents which is vitaly important with Cardinals there is a more important issue it will help you with. Because Cardinals are super senstitive and wild caught it is not uncommon for an entire batch to get sick during transit. The problem is this usually takes a week or so to manifest. Unless your LFS quarantines fish upon arrival for two weeks, chances are that any Cardinals for sale are relatively new. Thus if you were to buy say 15 at a time you run the risk of losing your entire schoal.
