hi everyone ive been doing some research on cardinal tetras & it seems they are quite sensitive to water conditions prefering a ph in the range 5.0 /7.0 unfortunatley my tap water has a ph of 7.4 has anyone had any sucsess with cardinals with this ph ? also what would the max stocking level be in a 26 gallon tank with cardinals only.?

Hi

I have a shoal of 8 Cardinals, in PH of 7.5. They have been with us for approx 4 months, initially in a 20 G and then a month ago transferred to a 38G. (newly cycled tank)!! touch wood, no problems so far. They do like lots of plants, although this is not the ideal for Cardinals, they seem to have adapted, and of course they were bought locally, and were in a similar PH before I purchased them.

I know ideally they prefer much softer water conditions, but as I have community fish with some different requirements, this is a "happy medium". I am quite new to fish keeping, and in retrospect I would try to source fish that fit the water requirements that I have. but so far, it has been succesfull

Ps I would think that you could keep about 20 in a tank that size, if that is the only fish, but I will leave it to more expert opinions as this is a rough estimate on my part!!
