Hi,

Need a bit of advice really. One of my cardinal tetras has developped a "growth" underneath its gills.
It looks like it contains a worm or something. I would appreciate some assistance from a more knowledgable person.
I hope the pic I took is attached

1. If it is a worm, how can I deal with it? or do I get rid of the tetra.

2. Are the other fish at risk?

3 How do I protect the other fish?

4. How cn I prevent it in the future?

Cheers

looks like a worm, possibly an anchor worm. Usually these are easily looked after by using a parasite med. Isolate the fish if possible and use the med to treat it. Be careful with the med as cardinals often only require half dosing as they can be sensitive to meds...it should say on the med container if that is so.

EDIT: After a closer look it appears to be a round worm as anchor worms have a forked tail. same med.

Couldn't agree more. Definately isolate the fish immediately and use the meds quick. If you get to it in time your fish will be fine!

Good Luck
