A couple of my cardinal tetras have developed these bumps? I’m new to the fish keeping hobby but before I dove in I did a LoT of research. I thought maybe I had gotten it wrong and cardinals were live bearers and maybe they were pregnant but I re-research and it wasn’t the case as you probably know. I’m dealing with a little brown algae break out on the glass of the tank but that’s only just appeared (because I was trying different lightings for the tank) but the cardinals had these bumps before this. It’s only two or three of them, could these be eggs in the females or possibly a parasite? I’ve tired looking at different types of parasites but can’t identify any that match. I’ve attached an image of one (granted not very good because well, they’refish haha)

It is difficult to see these “bumps” on your fish, the tank water shows tiny particles that are getting in the way of a clear view. Do the bumps resemble a grain of salt on the exterior of the fish? Or is the body of the fish bulging outward?

The one in front of the heater looks a little bloated. It could be constipation (hopefully), otherwise it might be first signs of dropsy for which the damage will be already done. Try feeding a cooked shelled pea. Get a pea (theyre usually frozen i guess). Boil the kettle and put both in a cup. Leave for 10 minutes, retrieve the pea and remove its shell/skin. Gently squash it between your finger and thumb and drop into the tank. Hopefully this fish eats some and it will help with constipation if thats the issue.

I recently had a little bloom of brown algae on my tank glass so sorry about the particles! The fish isn’t as round as dropsy looks. It’s more bumpy like there’s little balls in them? I fasted them for two days from their main food I feed them (frozen) to see if it was that but they look the same? A little less bumpy but still bumpy? I’m doing a remake of their tank for a new aquascapr and was thinking of doing a 50% water change just in case it’s sowmthing in the water as well?

The bumpy ones could just be females as they are typically much plumper than males. If they are behaving normally, eating, pooping, interacting with each other and in no obvious distress then I would not worry.

Could we talking about Dermocystidium?
The pic is quite unclear.
