I have almost given up. I can't seem to keep my bettas healthy. One way or another they always seem to end up sick. I have plants, do water changes and have a heater, but no matter what I do they always die. Is there some essential aspect of betta care that I am over looking?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, if you’re water parameters aren’t in check, then that might be the cause of your bettas illnesses. Just keep me posted! ;)

How long do you have the fish for before they die?
What do the fish look like when they die and what symptoms do they show?

How often do you do water changes and how much do you change?
Do you gravel clean the substrate when you do a water change?
Do you dechlorinate the new water before adding it to the tank?

How often and what do you feed them?

Do you add anything to the tank (plant fertiliser, medications, etc)?

You need to get a API Freshwater Test Kit.

Along with your project, I think you might want to start feeding live food. Wingless fruit flies look easy to do. Start there. Fish seem to like hunting and killing their food. Gives them some exercise.

I think many people face same problem when they are new. You can try first keeping bettas in small jars like ( 2-4lit). Take tap water and add dechlorinator after 1 hr. add indian almond leave in it and use that water on next day. Feed him pellets sometimes mosquito larvae by washing them, and sometimes bloodworms etc. They will live.

I've had bettas for about 3 years.....I'm not exactly new. I'm just plauged by failure

We need more information about the fish and how they are kept if we are to help you. Any chance you can answer the questions in post #2 & 5?

Then it could be little lack of information. You can get information as per your fish requirements on google, youtube and this forum...etc. It happened with my fish too. Time doesn't matter if you failing. There are many things to know. Even professionals get something new to learn. :) Im also still learning :D
