I noticed 3 out of my 9 zebras having a very very fat stomach over the past 2 days, so big it looked like they were going to explode any minute! I assumed they were pregnant.

When I checked on them today, all 3 zebra's stomach were back to their normal size, so does this mean their eggs are somewhere in the tank?

Unlike the corys, who lay their eggs onto the glass of the tank, the zebras lay their eggs on the substrate don't they? I wasn't anticipating to breed them, so I didn't separate them into another tank and put marbles at the bottom. My substrate is just normal gravel, so should I search there for it?

What you could do is just gravel vac the substrate, then leave the buckets sitting around and see if any fry hatch in there.

danios have a habit of spawning out one end and turning
around and eating the eggs before they have a chance to hit the substrate, whilst still spawning.

you will be very luck to find many eggs after a gravel vac and even luckier to raise them.
if you want to have a go at breeding them, checkout my website.

Try this.

Aquavac the substrate, empty the contents into a glass bowl with water from the same tank

Get another glass bowl and pour the water from the first bowl in leaving the hoovered gravel in the glass bowl.

Look carefully at the bottom of the bowl for eggs and fry.
