hi, can anyone steer me to a type of fish keeping, im a beginner and love nano reefs, but also like community tanks! any guide wil be helpful! :D

Saltwater / Marine is the same thing :) Unless you mean brackish / Marine ?

Depends how much money, time and space you have - ultimately you will have to look after them and take care of them. So your choice :)

yh i ment brakish!lol ... i love those little nano reefs, there small but wud hey b more expensive and harder to maintain? :/

I can't proclaim to know anything about nano tanks or even saltwater - but from what I've read in the threads in that section on TFF, you've gotta know what you're doing on such a small scale. Read the pinned articles there (especially "I want my own Nemo") and speak to the guys there.

Decide how much time, effort and money have have to spend and how much space you have.

I would say fresh water, because it will give you more experience, and i know saltwater is more expensive, especially the fish, i would try out the fresh and go small at first see if you like it. And work your way up and you can buy a new tank just for saltwater, but it's all up to you, either way you'll learn and you will enjoy it. Fresh water tanks are more community tanks full of colors and such and easy to maintain, saltwater, and nano's same thing very colorful but more expensive and harder to maintian. The fish in a saltwater tank are more sensitive..

I, too, would advise freshwater, and maybe a 20-30 gallon rather than a 10. Bigger tanks are easier to maintain and you get a better choice of fish. Even with 20 gallons you are still looking at small fish.

Freshwater is a lot easier than saltwater by all accounts, and awful lot cheaper. With saltwater you need a lot of equipment and the salt itself comes very expensive. And so do the fish.

If you do go into saltwater after a few years, it is usually recommeded to start with a biggish tank rather than nano. Smaller tanks require more expertise.

Good luck with your choices!

cheers! by looking at the results i think im going to go for freshwater! lol :D
