Hey, i got some pond plants in March-April, 2 of which were "Canna Harvest Yellow" and "Black Water Iris", they came in one of them grow your own from the root kits. It said on the pack to plant them near pond then also 5cm under the water. I'm confused. I put their containers about 2 cm under the water surface. Am i doing right? The plants have shown no obvious growth whatsoever from the "bulb" of the root unlike my Water Lily and Pickerel plant that i also got. Can anyone advise?

I don't know about the iris but the canna that you have is marginal. It sounds like you have planted it right. They want to be either grown in the marshy bits around a pond or just submersed. Not sure why it hasn't grown but I think that maybe if you buy the canna bulb then it may not grow until its second year. I have had a ginger lily that never grew in the first year but then I dug it up earlier this year and it has a shoot.

Does the bulb have a root system yet or not? If not I would not expect it to start growing until next year perhaps, cannas should have started by now really.

Thanks for your reply. When i planted the bulb into the pot it had roots already grown and quite long. Hopefully it will grow next year, as you suggested.
