I have a 55 gallon tank right now and I'm wondering what a good canister filter would be out of curiousity. I personally like the looks of the one with the two bio wheels for biological filtration and the cansiter for chemical and mechanical. I belive its the Magnum 350 or something. Any suggestions on a filter thats good with all three or well any suggestions. :)

I hear that ehiem's are the best. I just got a Rena Filstar XP3 for my 125 and no problems what so ever so far, and ive only heard good things from owners of it as well. Im sure both are good. It also depends on how much money you want to spend.

I think your talking about the Magnum 350 with the series 60 biowheels. I have the HOT (hang on tank) 250 version mainly as a powered gravel vac and to polish water.

I prefer my Fluval 404 for filtration over the Magnum - it doesn't work as well for mechanical but the biological is fairly good. I really prefer my Rena XP1 for construction and ease of use.

One annoying thing about the Fluval (even with the 'priming' mechanism which doesn't work BTW) is having to suck on the outlet end to get it flowing if you don't fully empty the filter during cleaning. This isn't a problem with the XP.

I'm getting an XP3 to replace the Fluval soon.

The canister u are talking about is a magnum 350 pro system. I have one for my 125 and it works great and all but the biowheels are no longer spinning n im not sure y not. Its been runing for about 1 year. I like the filter itslef but the water isnt making it to the bio wheels cuz most of the water leaves through the pressure side

So how is the Rena xp series with mechanical and biological filtration. I suppose it would work well. What about chemical filtration like carbon?

I decided on the Eheim Pro II 2026 because of the great reviews and people seem to love it and its eheim which is a good brand name anyway. It's on the way and should be here sometime this week.
