I accidentally turned my fluval 207 off thinking it was the air pump and now it’s not working. I’ve taken it apart and emptied as if doing maintenance and it’s still not working! Tried the priming pump and all that’s done is pump loads of crap which I presume is from my pipes into my water

I would normally follow the following to check the system.
  1. Is the filter getting power, was a switch on a power bar accidentally turned off.
  2. Is the filter motor running or does just seem to be humming
  3. Is the lines to and from the filter clean
  4. Is the valve on the lines open
  5. When you prime the motor does water appear to move into the filter
  6. Are you allowing all the air to escape from the filter, this can be helped by ensuring that the hoses do not hang lower than the filter at least to start.
  7. Can you hear air in the filter
On thing I noticed with an older Fluvial filter I had was that if the motor stopped sometimes it wouldn't start running again. In these cases I would take out the impeller system clean it and put it back in and try again. Sometimes it would take a couple of tries. I have also tried to get the system to work with the valves shut off but you can notice that right away. The other issues I had was an air pocket at the top of the filter assembly, this is why Fluvial used to suggest you cut the lines to the right size for your aquarium.
