I got my fluval 204 for my 29 gallon on Friday. Is it just me or are these things hard to put together. Not the canister so much as the hoses etc. I was working for an hour straight and was in the home stretch (putting intake and outtake hoses on tank) and I ended up with one hose to short. (my bad). I called Hagen and of course they were closed for the Good Friday. I called Drs Foster and Smith and they did not have the ribbed hose part for the 204 ( I ordered the filter from them?) so I went online to Big Als and thank goodness they had it so I ordered it. My advice to anyone who has not had canisters before is to have someone who has, help them with the setting up and installation. It is alot harder than an HOB. What a fustrating day! :-(

I am in the market for a new canister filter for my 30 gallon tank. How are you liking it so far??

He doesn't seem to like it because of putting it together. I am talking about in term of performance

I have tried Fluvals from time to time for decades. I have always had trouble getting them set up and not dripping, very fiddly. Once they're going they are fine. Always use Eheims now.

I am still waiting on the part from Big Als so right now I am running a Aquaclear 300 that I had ordered also and I like the AquaClear alot. I hope to get the part for the Fluval anytime now. When I get it up and running I will let everyone know how I like it. I hope I like the way it runs alot better than I liked setting it up. I just hate having to cut things to fit as I am a bad measurer. It didn't help to have a tank of fish freaking out while I was plunging my hands and various intake and outtake thingamajiggies in the tank either.

I have always preferred my eheims also, (although I have an internal fluval 3 on my smaller tank). But I have had a bad leak from one recently which flooded my whole carpet with about 1/4 of the tank water!!

My fault for not checking all the pipes and seals properly when cleaning.

It can be fiddly to start with, but once they are going are quick and easy to maintain.
