Hi there, I was wondering if anyone can help?

I have seen a gorgeous candy stripe pleco at my lfs, I've been doing a lot of research on plecs on and off for about a year and the candy stripe was on my list of ones that I like and would be able to keep. Thing is I cant find any info on whether they can be kept with a syno catfish.

My tank is 180 litres with lots of plants, caves and bogwood with crushed coral sand substrate.

Tankmates include:

1 syno catfish (approx 5 inches long)
4 bosemani rainbowfish
1 ram
3 female bettas
15 cardinals
12 harlequins
6 ottos
pair of kribs

Would this be suitable for the plec?

All comments/advice appreciated.......Thanks. Di

i would say you were fully stocked already and adding a plec may unbalance the tank due to them being big waste producers. i think they will eat your plants too as they are herbivores if i remember right.....

The plec should be fine with a syno as long as there are plenty of places to hide for probably both, the plec wont eat the plants, plecs are known to damage leaves while eating anything either settled or growing on them but out and out eating of the plants wont happen as long as there dietary requirements are met.

I do agree with mattlee on the stocked tank already, seems quite a highly stocked tank to be adding a relatively messy fish.

Thank you both for the quick replies, I also remember reading that they shouldn't damage plants as long as they're fed properly. My tank has both an internal and external filter and I've never had any problems but I have decided against getting a plec as I had forgotten they were major poop machines (I know, pretty important thing to forget eh), besides that it was £30 and my car needs fixing first lol.

Thanks again, Di
