Hi, :)
I'm working on a betta-fish kit, which will come complete w/ a care guide and I'd like to include a section for "tricks" and fun things you can teach your fish...such as how to get them to eat from your hand, jump for food, or flairing on command. Pictures of your fish performing any trick-like behaviors would be great too! With your permission, I might like to include them in the guide as a reference :)

Aaah that sounds halarious! --Did you teach him or is he just a happy little fishy? :)

One of mine flares at me for food. He just started doing it naturally, and so every time he would flare at me, I would drop a bit of food in there. Now he flares and rushes to the top, expecting food. :3

my ct will jump for food, he'll swim verticle for a while, open his mouth and then jump at the tweezers, userally hits the food right on target :D

Almost all of my bettas will take bloodworms off the tip of my finger. They start doing this after a few days of getting used to me and knowing I'm the one who brings food :)

Little Yura plays a game called "flare at mommy's finger". I wouldn't call it an aggressive flare since he only flares his gills and not his fins. I guess he just wants to let me know that he sees me :D

Edit: Oh, and Valefor does the "wormy dance" sometimes right after being fed. He clamps his pestoral fins by his body and just wiggles like a worm... a very happy worm ^_^

how did you teach him to JUMP outa the water that sounds like the coolest :p

Your picture perfectly illustrates the interactiveness of these loovely little fish. Is it okay with you if I use it as an example? He's adorable :D

(Time to break the belief that bettas are "just" fish :) )

I read a story about someone that had trained her betta to go through hoops, and also to flare on command. I'll see if i can find it again and post it on here. :wizard:

Ok here's a link to a website that has 2 stories about training bettas.

http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/trick.htm

In the first story, the owner trains the betta to pull a string and ring a bell.

In the 2nd story, the owner trains the betta to follow a pencil, flare on command, and swim through a hoop.

Hope this helps! :wizard:

Sure Prizm, feel free to use it :)

My Bettas also eat frozen Bloodworms and Brine Shrimp from my fingers, if I hold them in the water or above it. Maui will jump 2-3" if I hold my finger above his tank :p

I also started tapping on their tanks a few times before I feed them, so now if I just tap on their tank they immediately go to their feeding slot and wait for food... ^_~ bettas are the cutest
