I picked this up because I collect tiny cat things. I attempted to take the button off the bottom, when surprise! I find there's some kind of electronics inside! No clue what it could be. Has anyone seen anything like this?

This was an estate sale. I don't know what you call them in the UK.

Stick some batteries in it, see what it does. I'm intrigued now.

It's home made electronics - or poorly done by a professional, either one :p Judging by the wholes in the top I would say it was designed to be a little alarm of some sort. But that's just a guess. I could also put the theory out there that an air freshener could be hidden under it and the scent would escape through the wholes, but because of the electronics I favor the alarm one. The cat was clearly glued onto the top of it.

Like a car boot sale? Random stuff that people want rid of to make some extra cash?

Yep, like that. We call them garage sales, yard sales, tag sales, estate sales (when someone dies) and rummage sales.

Stick some batteries in it, see what it does. I'm intrigued now.

Nowhere to put batteries. I just pulled the electronic works out of it, and the photo shows it all. I'm intrigued too! I wish you could pick it up and look at it.

I wonder if it was supposed to have some sort of small light in it and the light shone up through the cut out bits in the base around the cat and kitten. It looks almost like somebody has retrofitted the electronic bits to the original pewter sculpture or tried to replace an old set up. It does look fascinating  . Does it have any other stamps on it besides the pewter stamp?

Nope, no other identifying marks besides the "PEWTER" on the side. The cats were indeed just glued on to the top, so I snapped them off without a fight. Came right off. And there were little slits in the top of the electronic part, but I think that was just for ventilation. I think I'll probably never know what the intended use was, but the kitties are now proudly displayed in my type drawer that's on the wall.
