Hi All,

I've seen talk about sexing sevs by looking at the facial spotting, especially on the cheeks, so I figured I'd post a few pics of some of the not so juvie Rotkeil sevs I have (thanks to Star) and get your take on sexing them...They are spotting nicely now and some are starting to get pigmentation around the shoulder areas

. I didn't post full body shots or shots of all of them (as they look the same) but can if it will help me understand how to sex them that would be great...it's getting to the point now where I want to thin down the numbers a little until a final pair is picked later...I have 6, would like 3/4 now and 2 finally

Here's the pics, please let me know what you think (thumbnails, click to "go large" :))

1) Male?

2) Male?

3) Female?

4) Female? - smaller than the others with more yellow than orange, very territorial and likes sitting in a spot where he/she darkens to hide...the moody/fiesty one!

Thanks

1. male, 2. male. 3. not sure, 4 female :good:

The females I have are all fiesty madams too! but I do have more males left than females.

Thanks Star, trust you to get here first :)

Do the females tend to grow slower or are generally smaller than the males? Or have I just got one that I need to target feed :)

Typical the lady is like this, she's picked her spot for egg laying obviously, it guarded on all four sides by nice slate walls hence her not budging from it I guess :)

With the parents the female is slightly smaller, but not much, and was slightly smaller when I got her (it was thought they were both male  ) The few females I have left in the tank are smaller, but the 3 batches are all together now so there are a few weeks difference between them.
