Hi all, I have a 25 gallon aquarium, with about 15-20 lbs of live rock. My lfs has a flurescent green bubble tip anemone. I told them everything I had, and they said it would be ok to get my parameters are all good. I was going to go get him tomorrow. I just have a few question:
1. When the acclimation is done, do I pick up the anemone with my hand, and set it down? Or is there another alternative?
2. I have a powerhead in my tank, is there anyway I can help prevent the anemone from getting stuck in there?
3.The hood on my tank is 22 inches long, what kind of light can I put in there? I will ask my lfs tomorrow when I go and get it, and they will most likely have some lighting for me. I just wanted to know ahead of time.
If any of you can help me as soon as possible that would be great. Thanks

How old is your tank
What are your tank paremeters
Have You any experience with Nems

Powerheads + Nems = 1 minced Nem

Lighting Requirement - IMO nothing short of Metal Halides will do

Don't get the BTA and find a different LFS. You need almost double the live rock you currently have. If you haven't got the lighting then your tank obviously isn't established enough for a BTA. Again a BTA and a powerhead is not a good mix.

Once you have the propper tank setup look for a good LFS to get an anemone from. Any LFS worth while will sell an anemone already attached to a piece of liverock. They won't try to remove it, they will just sell the anemone and the rock together. Acclimation should be drip method and definately take your time.

Well today I finally broke down and got the mh lighting system :) . While I was there the anemone was on the glass, almost looking like it was going to split, but probably not.

What size of MH & Rating :good:

Glad you got the MH as this is a big step in the right direction. However I would not advise a Bubble tip in 25 gallons of water. Once established i it can easily outgrow the tank simply by bloating itself with water (it doesnt need months or years of growing to achieve this... merely a few days to acclimatise).

How deep is the tank? if its less than 18 inches then 150w 10k will suffice but if its deeper than this then you really need 2x 150w or better still, 250w halides. (400w are even better but you might get temperature issues in a small tank).

Anenomes are delicate and sadly they dont far well in captivity. Its hard to agree with people that say they have had one thriving for 10 years so they must be doing something right... These animals live for centuries... aactually they can live even longer as this is one of the few animals in the known world that sicentists cannot find an aging process occuring so in essence they are immortal unless disease or predation takes hold. So with such long live creatures its hard to care for them knowing that these things will be around long after you are no longer aroumnd... The saying... Its for life not just for christmas really is true with this creature.. not just your life however, probably your kids and their grand kids as well!

I think T5 lighting will suffice, my BTA is doing quite well under an ( admittedly ) double bank of T5 lighting.

Good water quality is a must, even the Tunze and Seio stream type pumps will mince a wandering nem.
