I've got a large pce of bogwood in the bath, its been in there one week, I have no problem with losing the use of the bath apart from the fact I have now started to smell :D :D

However, I'm forever finding very small bits of bogwood breaking await from the main peice,

Does this mean the pce i have is no good, the brown leaking is now quite low. what should i look out for perior to adding the bogwood to my tank

cheers

Allo Jason

I wondered what that smell was in the office

Only joking i normally boil my bogwood for a couple of hours then use a nail brush to scrub all the bits off

Its normally fine then and i know any possible bad bacteria or contamination has been killed off

I just rinse mine in boiling water and add it straight to the tank, it does colour the water up a little but i quite like the effect and the fish seem to like it too, if it gets too dark i just add some carbon to the filter for a week to remove it.
After being sterilized by the boiling water there is no chance contamination and any small pieces that break off add to the substrate to create a more natural effect.

thanks CFC, Daz
