Can we change the text equivalent for the sunglasses smiley 8) ?

Because it is "8 )" without the space, it keeps happening that whenever there is an 8 at the end of a number I put in parentheses, the software just changes it to the sunglasses smiley which is never what I want.

Just a few minutes ago, I was writing 10^( -7.8 ) (without the spaces) in a discussion of what pH means, and the software changes all those automatically, and so I had to do back and put in spaces and make it significantly harder to read so that the characters displayed correctly.

So, could we disable the software from changing every occurrence of "8 )" (without the space) into a smiley. Can we change it to :8 ): (without the space) or :sung: or something like that? I'd appreciate it.

When you post, use the 'add reply' button instead of the 'fast reply' button....then...at the unbottom, un 'tic' the 'enable emoticons box. SH

And that turns off emoticons for everyone who views the post? Excellent.

All right, here's the next question, then. Is there a setting the control panel to default that toggle off? That way I won't have to remember to hit that button every time?

theres also a clash of B) and "b )" like, when you're giving choices in a conversation such as: "a) choose this, B) choose that, c) choose something else"

This is actually a very good suggestion, as it's something that has bugged me before.

I've now added the dash as suggested by Esfa so points 8) and b) are unaffected by emoticons

Awesome, thank you WIlliam.
