Hi all!

I've read that some water conditioners could be toxic for shrimps.

Has anybody made such an experience?

Then I've read that plants from a shop would be generally treated with substances that could be toxic especially for shrimps, not that much for fish. Have those substances generally gone within a week or can it take longer?

What kind of water conditioners are you referring to? Dechlorinators? Additives? Anything that contains copper is potentially toxic to shrimps. I've not had any problems with dechlorinators in general.

Some newly bought aquarium plants may have been dipped in chemical to rid of the snails and that chemical is toxic to shrimps. You should rinse the plants thoroughly under running tap water before putting in your tank with shrimps. If you are worried, you can rinse well and then soak them for a 2-3 days changing the water daily.

I use that dilbert, and my Cherry Shrimp are all okay (I've had them for 3 months or so).

Prime is the most commonly used among shrimp keepers and breeders. Most dechlorinators ONLY bond with chlorine/chloramine in the water. When chlorine is removed from chloramine, ammonia is the bi-product, which as we know, can be harmful to fish/shrimp. Products, such as Prime, also bonds with ammonia, along with chlorine/chloramine. Although Prime is expensive, compared to other products of similar size, the amount required is a smaller amount to most other products. Basically, you can get more than your moneys worth with a bottle of Prime.

Most shrimp keepers have had only successes or better success, using Prime. I used to use Stress Coat and never had any shrimp babies, even after having the shrimps with eggs for over 3 months. When I switched over to Prime, I later found babies.
