Hi,

I want to upgrade my tank to either a vision 260 or a rio 300 sort of size.

At the momment I have a juwel vision 180 supported on this chest of drawers in my bedroom and am wondering if it will support the larger size tank.

I took some pictures below. It has a large central support beam thats 1.5 inches thick and the outer support beams are about .8 inch thick and they are all connected at the base/top.

I've looked at some of the standard tank stands you get and they look like quite thin wood.

I think it enough to hold but just wanted a second opinion, thanks.

wow thats some serious plug use in the last pic

Its a 3 socket extension with 1 multi that splits the lava lamp (never used) and heater, the other 2 are pump and light (with a timer).

Thanks for the help..

That's an IKEA HOPEN, isn't it? I am surprised that it can hold the tank it already does! I would say "no". I don't think I would even risk it without getting written confirmation from IKEA that the top is rated to hold the weight..

I had a chat with IKEA just now because I also have HOPEN wardrobes and need a new stand for my marine tank. The guy said that it isn't rated to hold any serious wight, and strongly advised against putting a fish tank on top.

thanks for looking that up for me kitty kat. I'll have to look into another way around this.

Ross, I cannot begin to examine your choice of cabinet manufacturers. As it turns out, I have never seen their particular products. It seems to me that any product that offers a solid base to your aquarium is a decent enough support for that load. I have used lots of different stands that were not originally intended for tank stands and have found that many of them are indeed suitable. The factor that you alone must judge is whether or not a particular tank stand can take the load that your aquarium will pose. I know that you are not likely to be a qualified structural engineer, but you are probably as capable as most of us are to judge the relative strength of your proposed tank stand.
