The above pinned topic doesn't have many FEMALE Pics, and I'm not sure a couple of my girls aren't veils. I hope not, or breeding will be out for sure (for them)

How big do the crownd have to be for crown tails? A couple of mine look like they have tiny ones.
 
most female bettas are hard to tell apart unless u buy fomr a breeder who knows what they are. a vt female can have crowns just as large as a ct female, i dont think pics can help u, the ones in the pinned article are the best you have to go by.
 
It can be very difficult to pick the genetic background of females. Tail shape isn't a lot of help. There are some things to look for, like the shape of the anal fin (tends to be pointed in VTs), shape and size of the dorsal etc, but they're only indicators.

With CTs, like GuppyDude said, many females show a little bit of crowning in the tail. A CT female should also show crowning in the other fins as well. I've attached a pic of one of my CT female juvies (14 weeks old).
