Common or sailfin, both going to get big. Need to look at a bristlenose or if you want something different, clown plecos are small and IMO cool. I had that same type of pleco as in the picture (actually amazingly similar) and it got to about 8 inches in 6 months or less.

there were 3 commons in my lfs today that they had rescued from someone who had them in a tank that was only 2 foot long, they were over a foot long each!

Common or sailfin, both going to get big.

Definitely liposarcus pardalis (common plec), not a sailfin (glyptopericthys gibbiceps).

is a BN plec got smaller spots all over its body and what look like small spikes on its nose cos if so i have 2 BN plecs cos i thought i had normal lol

Clue is in the name - Bristlenose. If your plec is small and has bristles on it's nose, then it's an Ancistrus (bristlenose) species. Which one? Prolly, given your description and the likelihood, a common bristlenose, aka Ancistrus sp. 3.

Like Kathy said, it's a liposarcus pardalis, will reach 12-18" and need a 4ft tank minimum. Preferably bigger.
