I know this might be stupid, but do you have him in pure melafix? Just in case you do, I don't think that pure melafix would be good for a fish (have you smelled the stuff?) You might try just putting it in a nice bit of pure water with extremely good water quality. I don't know much about goldfish, but clean water does wonders for a fish after being in ammonia and nitrites. They can't breath in that stuff, it reduces their ability to extract oxygen from the water, but will start to be a lot more active in just plain old water. I would recommend RO (reverse osmosis), you can pick this up at almost any LFS. I don't like to medicate when I don't have to, and when there's not really any paracite or bacteria etc., just bad water quality, I just put my fish in a healthy environment. I would recommend getting the fish to breathe before medicating it, even in small amounts. Ick is not going to kill your fish immediatly, if it only has 2 or 3 small white spots, but suffocation will. JMHO/MHE
