Can Plecs Get Whitespot? Are They Imune To It?

This may be a stupid question considering most fish can get whitespot, but i was wondering wether plecs can get it? The first thing that brought this is up is i have never seen a plec get whitespot, the second thing is quite important- almost a week ago i bought 3 very small clown plecs for a bargain price of £3 each(or at least i thought it was), i put them into my quarentine/hospital tank as soon as i got them back home. 2 of the plecs didn't make it past the first 2days, they were already quite starved when i bought them and they just failed to eat anything i gave them and they died. The 3rd one who was in much better condition started to chow down food almost straight away and regained his weight in the first 5days, the tank i had originally bought them from the lfs was imaculate and desease-free so i put him in the main tank after 5days of getting him to put on some weight.
3days into his quarentine though before this i put 3 pearl danios in the quarentine/hospital tank to treat them for some nipped fins as they had been chasing each other around an aweful lot recently, the thing is though this morning i noticed they had whitespot. To say the least i've imediatly started treating them and the other fish in the quarentine tank. What i'm worried about though is that the young clown plec could have transferred the whitespot into my main tank already(i don't know if plecs can carry this sort of thing), and i may now have to treat the main tank(both the plec and the fish in the main tank look in perfect health right now though) :/ .
What i'm really concerned about is having to retrieve all the shrimp(japonica/amano) and apple snails that are in the main tank as i can't think of any anti whitespot meds that don't harm crustations(sp?) and things, the problem is is that the tank is 125gals and this task may be near imposible considering its VERY planted and decorated -_- .
Anyways, as i've said before, the fish and critters currently look fine in the main tank, as you can see though i'm very concerned about having the prospect of whitespot in such a large tank- in the quarentine/hospital tank its fine there as the tank is designed for treating fish anyways and i can keep a much closer eye on them, but...Can plecs even get whitespot in the first place or are they imune to it? Can they carry the desease? I feel like such a fool now for now quarentining the plec for a longer period of time -_- .
Any help is much appreiciated.

I didn't really reed much of that as I am a lazy reader, but my Medusa Plec, had whitespot only a few days ago and after adding Interpet Anti White Spot Plus, it was gone within 2 days.

On the bottle it says it is fine in tropical and coldwater aquariums but don't use it with Mormyrids.

I'm lazy and not reading the whole post... But yes - they can get whitespot.

We lost one of our L236's last week to an odd outbreak - It was just 4 of the 5 that had it - and 4 of them are fine... lost one :(

Its the only fish we've ever lost to white spot - and only the 4th time we've had it.

Do you think i should get the clown plec out of the main tank ASAP back into the quarentine tank and just hope for the best  ?

whitespot is present in all tanks.. it only strikes when fish are stressed or ill.

If the clown has no spots i wouldnt worry ;) (do keep an eye on it though) if it shows any spots - wip it out and treat.

I've never had any ploblems treating plecs with normal recomended doses of medication, I do now recommend adding more airation though.
the plecs that had white spot wer at the top of the tank - I added air and the rest picked up quite quickly.

Thankyou so much for the advice :) ! I just spent the last couple of hours trying to catch the(cute) little bastard, and ended up re-arranging the tank in the process. I still havn't caught him, but at least the tank looks tidier i guess :| . Its a really cute 'lil plec, maybe only an inch long, seems to get along very well with the para plec, but i guess i'll just have to try and catch him tommorrow as overall i'd prefer him to be in the quarentine tank than the main one. I really hope i won't be looking at any whitespot disasters in the main tank though(fingers crossed, touch wood, holds fish talisman to chest and lucky keyring :fun: ) .
I've left some tasy looking fresh big chunk of bogwood out in an open space in the tank hoping i'll catch him off guard tomorrow on it :shifty: .

what treatment are you using?

we've tried a few and now only use Esha products - they work very quickly ;)

I'm using "anti whitespot" by Interpet in the quarentine tank right now, its a good med, does the job efficiently, but nothing special. I'm not sure if i can catch the clown plec, maybe its too late? Wether i can or i can't though i won't treat the tank unless the fish actually start showing whitespot symptoms, as if i remove the shrimp and snails i'll need to set them up their own tank, which i'm not particually keen on.
How long did the Esha whitespot treatment take the treat your fish?

I've used Interpet Anti White Spot Plus with great very fast results. At full dose in a tank with plecs and loaches. But not crustaceans. It will most certain kill them, so don't treat your main tank unless you absolutely have to.

I've never had plecs get whitespot though - only some tetras. Odd how it seems to effect some fish and not others.

Good luck

My snails are living in a tank al;l on there own for just this reason, had white spot show up on my rummy noses treated the whole tank (minus apple snails) and no new occureneces, I do have a UV filter as well on my tabk anbd believe this may also have helped clear it. I was worried about my Plec's but they dont seem to have caught it. I like you had the nightmare of trying to find the snails in a planted heavely wooded large tank. I did first think of just removing the rummys and treating them but with the fish stock I have I thought it safer to treat the whole tank. 1/2 a bottle of interpet for each stage of the treatment :S but every body now looks fine.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go :)
