Ive had a nitrate test kit for a few years now, i cant seem to see any use by dates on any of the chemicals. Im just wandering if i should be trusting the readings im getting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the kits are new, ie: you just bought them, take them back and get them replaced with kits that are still suitable and haven't expired. If the shop won't replace them, send a copy of the receipt to the manufacturer (API) and ask them to replace them.

Test kits last best when kept in cool dark conditions. I keep mine in a bucket in the fridge, or the door of the fridge. Make sure children can't get to them because most contain toxic chemicals. Wash your hands well with soapy water after handling/ doing water tests.

I prefer the API master test kit as you get a 'positive' 0 reading unlike other kits.

With that said - if you are in the UK - Practical fishkeeping magazine has an offer on subscriptions with a free Nutrafin mini master test kit that might be worth checking out if you like the magazine.
