I have recently bought a Fluval Edge Fish Tank and was wondering if I could put Neon Tetras, Rummy-Nose Tetras And A Siamese Fighter Fish together????????????????

Many Thanks,

fluval.edge

Never had experience with rummmy's but the neons would be ok with the fighter, as long as you feed them regularly and they have enough space, I see no issue x

Forgot to ask, is the betta female or male?

the fluval edge is a great looking tank but as stocking goes its really designed for very small fish like rasboras or shrimp in reality... there has been many questions on here about using the edge for bettas and the same thing is always said - they dont have the surface area that a betta needs as they breath air from the surface, also the filters may be a bit strong for them.. people have and will keep bettas in them but the fish is restricted to the small opening at the rear of the tank to gain access to the surface for air.
rummy nose tetras grow to just over 2 inch and need to be in groups to feel secure so these arent suitable for the tank either im affraid, the neon tetra is slightly smaller but need to be in groups of 6+, the more the better, and again i wouldnt really advise it...

check out galaxy rasboras, they are great fish and much smaller than most tetras so would suit this tank more :good:

the edge looks really great planted out with lots of nice shrimp and maybe a snail or 2, have you thought of these?

Ahh see, I never got what a 'fluvel edge' was, until I googled it  nice looking tank but I would defo say not suited to Bettas. Bettas need the air space as they have to breath from the surface x

I would only put a Betta in a Fluval Edge. Rummy's need tons of swim space, neons are ok, however could do with a mature tank.

A betta and some pygmy cory's or cherry shrimp would be good for a 'Edge'.

do you think the betta would be ok without much access to the surface for air Ian? i know a few people on here have done it and say the fish learn where the space is but wouldnt it stress them trying to figure it out.... the tank is big enough for a betta without a doubt but i dont think i would do it because of the surface limitations....

i think it maybe worth putting this question in the betta section?

IMO i think it would be a great tank for a betta (i'm not a betta expert though). I have only ever kept one betta and donated him to my missus salon, where he lives quite happy in an old biorb. I cant see any problem in having just the opening at the top it's only like keeping Bettas in a Jar. BTW Matt, don't post that in the Betta section lol! I know many betta breaders keep em in nothing more.

your secrets safe with me and who ever reads this..... ;) i just didnt know if the betta would panic if it couldnt find the air space, where as in a bowl all it has to do is go to the surface but in an edge the water fills to the surface giving no space except at the back for air where the filter is.

tetras will nip/shred the bettas fins. ask in the betta section.

Not all.

Black neons do ok, as long as there is enough space in the tank. Not sure about neons though, I only have blacks in with my betta male and they are fine.
