I have a light fixture that stopped working and I can't seem to figure out why. I've already replaced the bulb and the starter, but it still doesn't go on.

Before I give up on it, is there anything else I should check? :dunno:

I know it may sound obvious, but have u checked the electric cable to see if it is still creating a thourough connection from the starter too the wall socket?

I had a similar problem the other day with a brand new flourescent "under cabinet" fixture. Took it out of the package removed the bulb it came with and replaced it with a brand new daylight color tube, plugged it in - nada. Swapped the bulbs back and still nothing. Got annoyed with it and moved on to the next project. Couple of days later, I started playing with it again and discovered that when I pressed the 2 end pieces (that the prongs of the tube fit in) towards each other just a little bit it worked just fine. They were just a hair to loose and the prongs of the bulb weren't making good contact. It's been working fine ever since.

Thanks for your replies. The fixture is plugged in, so that's not the problem.

Is it a magnetic or elestronic ballast?

I don't know which one it is, but if you could tell me how to find out, I'll do it and let you know. :D

Sometimes the clips that hold the bulb in will get the slightest bit of corrosion on them, just enough to mess up the connection. UNPLUG the light, and take a small wooden nail file, or a piece of sandpaper to buff some of the corrosion off.

If it flickers before it turns on, then it's electronic, if it turns on immediately, then it's magnetic. Maybe (but not likely), you need to change your electronic starter if you have that type.
