Are the lids (if there is one) easy to cut to fit it onto the tank

Those are the same as the Aqua One models. Couldn't get it to fit my nano and you could cut the lid but it wouldn't do you much good the main body defines all dimensions and the lid fits inside of it. The problem I had getting it to fit was due to the uptake not being right at the end of the body which caused it to foul on the bracing bars in my tank. It would fit on the end of the tank but then was in the way of the luminaire. LFS told me most people have problems and bring them back.

I take it you were looking to run Rowaphos carbon etc while still giving surface agitation. Why not look at an external with a spray bar or use a small internal if you not worried about additional surface agitation

I was going to use it for a small fuge, but if it doesn't go in then it won't I suppose
