The topic of Carbon is debaitable lol, and Ive seen many answers to that same question. Id stick to replacing it every fortnight like SkiFletch mentioned. Just for safety, and so your Carbon is working at its optimum level. Its pretty cheap too.
A lot depends on the brand of carbon, what sort of water you use, and bioload. 2weeks is a good rule of thumb. I run tons in a DIY filter (basically pvc plumbed to a Mag 3 pump, with holes on the end for the water to pass through). Holds maybe 1.5lbs. I swap out 50% every 2 weeks.
