Hey everyone,

I have a Hydor mini heater that I am not currently using. I was wondering if I can put it in my 2.5G acrylic aquarium. Will it get too hot in there, or will the plastic melt? My CT is in there right now and I don't like how low the temp is overnight. Thanks all

P.S. I may be getting some new bettas from Betta B.C. Will let you all know when I do.

I have a 25 watt neptune heater in my 2.5G minibow and it works fabulously - keeps his tank at a smooth 79 degrees.
I just make sure the heater is never touching the acrylic part and it works like a charm.

Also, if your temps are fluctuating that much, you might want to look into something besides the mini hydor heater - I used to have them in some of my tanks, and they were wonderful... even though they add just a few degrees on it helped. BUT... if your temps are fluctuating that much you'll want to look into getting something more steady probably. They hate fluctuations.

This is a pic of the tank. I am concerned about it because I am not even positive it is acrylic, it may be plastic. It is like a critter keeper.

Will it be safe in there? I had it in earlier because the water wasn't the right temperature when I did a water change. I only had it in there for about 30 minutes, I had to bring it up 2 degrees. It was just floating though, not suctioned to the side. Here is the tank from Hagen

Oooh hmm - that particular one is made of plastic.
I'm not so sure that I'd stick a heater on the side of that.
It's a very adorable tank, though..

:/

That is what I was thinking. What about the little 25W heaters that have suction cups on the side? I have a big one in my 55G and a 50W in my 10G. They have a temp control and don't touch the side of the tank. They look a little like this:

The other problem is the lid closes tight with no room for a cord. I may be able to get around that by cutting a small hole in the side.

He needs heat, The temp went from 72 yesterday to 69-70ish this morning. That seems like too much to me. The summer is fast approaching here though, the temp has been averaging 23C everyday, beautiful sun etc... Maybe if I move him to another room with less drafts.

My 5G is not heated either, but the temp stays much more stable, and if I notice it is fluctuating I put the Hydor on and it stabilizes it through the night. I am thinking about getting another tank, but hubby says no way cause I have spent close to $4000 in the last three months getting the six tanks I have now.

Thanks for all your help guys I really appreciate it.
