I currently have a marineland 5 gallon portrait I have to restart. Tank Link I am considering tearing out the back panel to allow more tank room. But that back panel is for hidden filtration. The plastic back is quite thin. Would a hob be able to balance on it? Anyone with experience with this tank? Also concerned about a lid. I might have to get creative. Thanks!

Okay. Not super thin. It's 1/2 centimeter of glass on the back. Not confident the HOB I love with my 5.5 gallon would set solidly on it though. Really wish it would... I'd like to get rid of that separator.

The separation of the separator could be tricksy, you may risk causing a leak in the back panel and it will be a challenge to get to the back seam of the divider with the back panel in place.

Actually, a LOT Of people do this with this particular tank. It's a VERY easy separation... just sealant holding the partition in place. A sharp knife used gently goes right through it and it's out. But it is something to think about... whether I want to risk ruining the tank. I don't have money right now for a new one!
