Run 2 sumps next to each other?
Basically under my tank I have a shelf which won't budge because its part of the metal frame. My current sump fits fine on top. However my skimmer won't fit in that space its about 4cm too high

Is there anyway I can put my spare 95l tank on the other side of the cabinet and somehow run from the top sump to the bottom sump without having to drill a hole in the top tank because there is no way I could manage that!

Any ideads would be great!

I've been wondering this too! My cabinet is diveded in half with a support right in the middle! Tho my dual sumps would have to be side by side.

Im sure there has to be a way but it needs to be quite simple! lol

I think the main problem could be getting the flow right, it doubles the problem that you have just getting the flow right through the sump, theres bound to be a way to make it work though!

run one highter than the other and yes its easy. two level and its hard. one only has to be a few inches higher.

Thanks for the pic Ben. Being still a little new to this all, how is that running? So its in from the tank on the right, through to one chamber, then a 2nd chamber, is that then a 3rd small chamber after that? How is it taken from one tank to the other? The 2nd tank has no baffles just one big tank? It would be how I need to run it with the 2nd tank housing the skimmer so it fits!

yeah, the thrird chamber in the first sump is just there to dictate the water level in the second chamber in that tank, its baffled in a way to minimise bubbles. it goes from the first tank to the second tank just by a couple of tank connecters and bits of pipe and drops into the second. so only the first sump was drilled.

Your right, the second tank has no baffles, so all teh equipment fits in. have to be careful of the water level in this one too, as all spare water would drain here in a power cut. thats why its only half full

That make sense! My only use for the 2nd tank is because I need to fit my skimmer in, I bought it 2ndhand and there is a hole in one of the pipes so I can't run it hanging off the edge! I will have to see if I can get the first tank drilled at all!

Thank you for the info!!

Been sorting bits out and I have a jewel 1000lph pump. Could I pump from the first tank with the jewel pump to the 2nd and back in with my eheim.

I was just messing around and filling up a jug, the eheim took like 1sec longer to fill but tbh they might be about the same as the jewel has no pipe so I had to hold it right next to the water surface so may have accidentaly got in some water.

Anyway, if the jewel pump turned out to pump a little too much is there anyway I can reduce the flow slightly?
I understand it will be hard to balance the flow through with 2 pumps especially as the eheim has to pump upwards to the tank.

Any ideas? I don't think I am able to get the tank drilled!

Trying to balance 2 pumps like that which where exactly the same would be a nightmare. 2 different pumps just wouldn't happen. If your going for a duel sump the one needs to overflow into the other, it's the only way this would work.

as above, cant be done really by using two pumps. even thougha pump states an flow rate...finding two of the same model that astually pump the same amount of water is impossible. Also flow fluctuates over the course of a day on a pump. short cut to a wet carpet.

Ok thanks!

Is there anyway to make a DIY overflow box? I dont actually understand how they work so would need to research them a bit!
