I have a not so colourful female guppie in my main tank and i was wondering if i could put it in with my girlfriends male siamese fighter.

Her tank currently has 1 male mollie, 1 male oblivian butterfly ram, and the male fighter.

I Have heard betas dont like fish that are colourful, have big fins, or look similar to them because they get aggresive. And for that reason i havnt even thought about putting male guppie in there.

If anyone could reply that would be great thanks.

- Tank looking empty as.

If you mix up the decorations and take out the betta for a little bit it could work. Put the other fish in first and then put the betta in, try that, if you see any serious aggression take it out.

But of course! The betta shouldn't hurt even a male guppy if the tank is big enough, I have kept bettas with guppies for a long time with no trouble. They only don't seem to like other anabantids. Just make sure the betta has a place to hide. I had a 'broken jars' ornament on the bottom of my tank, right over the airstone, and my betta loved to just sit in the bottom of it (and get bubbles on his butt, I suppose, too, LOL!)
I've heard mollies need salt to thrive, though...wondering if that's true or not...

I tried the salt thing when i was breeding them, they breed more if theres salt but not so much when they dont have salt. Other wise it made no difference.. I found they act the same if theyre not breeding.

I wouldn't risk it. It's not so much the fighter (some people do 'get away with' keeping fighters and guppies together but it's never recommended) but the male molly.

Mollies are closely enough related to guppies to hybridise with them, under some circumstances, so the male molly will harass the female guppy. As she'll be the only female in the tank, all his 'attentions' will be targeted at her, which will lead to her suffering a huge amount of stress. He could very well kill her :/
