Ive got a community tank with 4 rainbows, 1 ruby shark, 2 bristlenose, 4 Thorichthys ellioti and a puffer. They all get on great and apart from the odd chasing every now and again, ive never had a problem with them being together.

Im quite new to cichlids, Could i add 2-3 aspitos to this with out any problems ?

Many thanks in advance.

how big is the tank?
i had a puffer before and they really went to town on my silver shark by nipping his fins, so i personally would not recommend it with the puffer being in there

Its a 3ft x 2ft x 1.5ft tank. The puffers never been aggressive to any of my fish even the T.ellioti all get along with him.

Puffers and other fish don't mix, one day you will find your prize Cichlids torn to shreds.

If that day comes ive got lots of tank space and id move him to another tank. But for the past 4 months hes been in with allsorts up until recently and never bothered anyhing except another puffer which was removed.

The tank is no where near big enough for 4 ellioti that potentially reach 6"+, 4 rainbows that will get to 5" and the shark would appreciate 4ft too.

The puffer isn't an ideal tank mate either as mentioned and I wouldn't fany adding some apisto's too.

I have got one Ellioti in my Cichlid community tank and it gives my JD a run for her money. I would imagine that one spawning pair would take over the tank never mind two. Stunning fish though :good:

Their really growing on me too, cant wait until they colour up more.

There just normal rainbow fish johnboy.

I have Aureus, nicer looking than Elliotis imo and stay smaller.

I would but i have no lights on my tank remember? i made that thread about my light unit popping, i'm planning on getting it sorted in the next few weeks tho.

Oh yeah, i forgot. Sorry mate.

My LFS had some Ellioti X Aureus in a few week back, very nice indeed.
