I have a 55g tank. Currently I have
1) a 30g HOB filter
2) a powerhead running a moving bed filter
3) an air pump with two outputs running:
a) a bottle moving bed filter
b) a 48 inch air diffuser running another moving bed filter
So I have 3 electrical devices doing some kind of filtering. I'm thinking of getting rid of the HOB filter and the powerhead. I've always read that you're supposed to have the water cycled x times per hour but it seems that the 48 inch air diffuser is moving the water pretty well. And with all these devices, it seems the tank is pretty noisy (does the noise bother the fish?)
So I'm wondering, can I get away with using just the airpump and it's 48 inch air diffuser and moving bed filters to circulate the water or is there some reason I have to have the water go through a pump?
