Hi

Have just bought a 2nd hand Quarantine tank 18''x10''x10''. Am cleaning it now.
It was *URGHHH!* but cheap :D

I bought a new filter (a Small World one). It is tiny and has only a white sponge and carbon/zeolite stony things in it - Im very dubious about whether it will be good enough.
Ive put this in my cycled tank.

Im hoping to get some new fish ( rummy nose or cardinal tetras ) Friday/Sat if, IF, things are ok.

SORRY ABOUT NUMBER OF QUESTIONS!

Q1 Can i put some water from cycled tank in Quarantine tank? If this will help what proportion? [Did water change yestereday Stas are fine.]

Q2 Will filter have built up any bacteria after 3 days?

Q3 Would I put some Stresszyme bacterai in?

Q4 When everything is ready how many new fish could I put in a tank this size (not sure of capacity)?

Q5 Gravel or no gravel for Quarantine tank?

A1 yes filling from existing tank will be fine, although there is no much bacteria free floating in water.

A2 some yes; I would take the current filter media out and place in a bucket of tank water, give it a good squeeze (so water goes mucky) then immerse the small world cartridge in the mucky water. this will transfer a lot of bacteria to the sterile cartidge.

A3 never used stresszyme; but sounds like a waste of time.

A4 7 gallon tank is a bit small to house most fish in permently; if used for quarenteen purposes then 6 rummynosed sized fish for a couple of weeks should be ok, with regular water changes.

A5 upto you; however more bacteria will colonise the gravel thus making it a beter enviroment.
