HI all. I am looking for suggestions/advice if should or can stock anything else? I had a major emergency last month where my 350 litre Juwel tank sprung a leak, and now I have eventually ended up with a brand new Juwel Rio 350. Everyone went back into this new tank after I set it up, and it currently houses 7 angelfish, 5 laetacara dorsigera, 19 purple emperor tetra, 6 rummy nose, and 1 L168 pleco. I only have 6 rummy nose because the last bout of ich that I had came from new rummy's, and it ended up killing most of them in the end, therefore I have been a bit dubious about getting more. I would love to have another cichlid, but I don't know of that would work with my current stock? I'm not too worried about the angels, as they generally only pick on each other, but the laetacara are kind of bastards. They generally rule the bottom of the tank and get pretty agro with anyone that comes close to their area when they're mating, which seems to be all of the time! It's literally like a roman orgy in the bottom of my tank every day, but I am fond of them, so I can't see myself getting rid of them.

I thought about some keyholes as I've heard that generally they are okay with angels, but I have conflicting info as to what part of the tank they tend to favour, as some sources sat the bottom, and some say the mid section? I know that most of the bigger cichlids are likely a no go, although some people seem to keep something like blue acara with angels, but I don't know of one would be okay with the laetacara? I know that a lot of other cichlids are not option at this point, is there anything else that might work? I'm not a big fan of pencilfish, except for the coral red's, but they are definitely not in my budget, and I am a bit dubious about hatchetfish, as I haven't had great success with them in the past. I could always add more rummy nose of course, because now I have a qt tank, but I am trying to figure out if there is anything bigger that could work in this tank? Thoughts?

Wow o wow what a tank!!! Please post some pics of it!

I honestly wouldn’t add more cichlids to the tank I’d be looking for interesting mid water fish for this kind of set up with things like headstanders, splash tetras maybe some big disk tetras like bleeding hearts? Equally not sure I’d go for bottom dwellers either if the laetacaras have staked it out lol. Maybe some bigger cats that won’t predate them like hoplos? I had a group of flagtail catfish for a while and they did spend a lot of time in mid water rather than bottom too.

Yeah, I guess I am not too knowledgeable on a lot of cats or tetra species, so that is why I asked. I'll look at the ones you mentioned. The laetacara haven't been violent to the point where I'v seen them attack anyone, but they will chase everyone (including my seven inch angel) away, relentlessly. This is the tank, but don't judge because I only just planted and filled it on Saturday, so the plants to need to fill in a bit yet, and the wood needs to sink before on can take the rocks off it! -_-

Lovely tank. I would like to see some Vallisinera along the back wall. It will give the angels some protection from each other.

Yeah looks awesome :) any pics of the Laetacaras?

Thanks. I am kind of over vallis tbh. I've planted some crypt balansae along the back, but it just needs to grow in. This was only 5 days ago remember, so all of these plants are brand new and young. There's also a few tiger lotus bulbs, etc in there, so hopefully it will fill in a bit nicely.

Nice that balansae will look great when it gets going some criniums would look good with them too
