Hi, I really want a betta and was wondering if I could put 1 in my community tank
with my currant stock?

3ft 150l
2 Opaline Gouramis, male female
2 yoyo loaches
3 Young marble angels
6 tetras, 5 black 1 neon

it really depends on the temperament of your fish. some get along great with tetras and loaches while others dont

I have the exact same fish as you, except in different amounts, and I have a male betta in my comunity tank. He is fine, and he loves it. It gives them plenty of room to swim, unlike the bowls. So I think it would be fine. :)

No. He'll turn on them eventually. The gouramis are agressive to the same kind, as both are anabantids, and will most likely chase the competing betta from his water space. The betta will attempt to kill the neons or the neons will nip at his fins. You can try it, but there's a very large chance it won't turn out.

I have had my betta in my tank for more than a year, and he has been best friends with my gouramis. He also ignores the neons. I guess it might depend on the fish, but I think it probably would be fine. And this is from experience. :)

If you want to go ahead and try it, make sure you have a spare tank, but many a person here (and IME, the pet shop keeps bettas with neons and the bettas fins are are so ripped) has had a gourami attack a betta.

I totally agree with K.J.
The betta and gourami will most likely not get along, and the neons are one of the nippy tetras, so they won't get along either.
It is a really big risk to put them together :/

well thanks for the advise, seems fairly down the middle.

iv just actually been and brought 1, have 2 fish shops only 5 min away,
so ill see how it goes, have a small tank incase it goes pear shape.

will add photo of him now.

Doesnt matter now ive put him in his own tank.

I think it depends on the individual fish, I've been keeping a betta in with several gourami for over a year without any problems despite being told it will end up in a bloodbath. They ignore each other basicly, either I have real sociable fish or each fish has its own personality. But I always say what works for one person may not work for another, I would try but monitor to see how it go's.

Yeah I have had my betta in my tank for over a year and I have gouramis. My betta is best friends with my gouramis and platys. They hang out in a big group. It is really cute. So just tell us all how it turns out, and we will find out if it is fine or not. :)

Females seem to get along ok with Gouramis. I have several females in with 2 kissing Gs with no problems at all!

Males, I dont think so. The only thing Ive found will work with males completely safely are Corys.
