Can fish hear?

Hello - I have a new fish and when I talk to him (in baby talk) he starts swimming fast and sometimes comes up to the surface. Can fish hear and maybe understand or I am scaring him?

No, its not a stupid question. Fish cannot hear, but they are very sensitive for vibrations. He is most likely responding to the vibrations you are creating with you voice...
