Can Feather Dusters Move?

My feather duster is about an inch further to the right than it was when I put it in. Has it moved on its own or is the current or hermits doing it???

they can move yes. they are actually worms in a tube :) my bigger ones move around a fair it more than the little fellas though

they make their own tubes, maybe they take a bit of their tube with them when they move?

No sh*t!?!? I had no idea!! So how do they move? I'm picturing a worm with a feathered hat on dragging his little tube around the tank, then hopping back in before anyone sees. LOL

lol cute image :)

they move just like worms. when they come out of their tube, they are fat and white and they wiggle their way through the sand. very cool to watch and you would have no idea there is a pretty feathery thing hidden in there :)

yeap they move when they arent getting enough food or just dont like there spot

phytoplankton, i feed mine phytoplankton every day, but at a very very small dose (bottle says a minimum of 1 drop per gallon, i give 1 drop per 2 gallons so im doing half the minimum dose) I am going to start culturing my own phytoplankton as well since it doesnt come cheap.

get live frozen phytoplankton, sometimes they can get food by themselves but since i skim my tank and i have corals i dose phyto to feed my feather duster.

I was fortunate enough to see the worm in action, moving around the tank. Mine is a little light-green coloured fellow with a pink and white feather. First they make a temporary tube out of the sand substrate to protect themselves. They then (no idea how) produce the brownish tube which we see in the tank.

Might have to do a video google search on them to find out exactly how they do it. They are cool though :) .

they use calcium to make the tubes, thats all i know about them.
